Hangry Neighbours Disruptions: The last swim?

Thursday, 30.October
12:00-14:00
Kristiansholm

The urban developer OBOS plans to extend the surface of Kristiansholm by 8.563 square meters, by filling the fjord with 200.000 cubic meters of rubble. Let’s join for a swim or a boat ride along the coast, where water may soon become land. A warm soup & the BAS sauna awaits you at shore, while ballons mark the future heights of the urban development project.

Hangry Neighbours Disruptions: Where do we draw the line?

In the middle of Sandviken, adjacent to the site of the Bergen Architecture School, lies Kristiansholm. Once a fort, a port, a brothel, the site has been recently purchased by the developer OBOS and will soon undergo significant changes. Plans include dense, private urban housing, as well as publicly managed green spaces. The remodelled coastal line will restore the island of Kristiansholm and extend its surface area by reclaiming a part of the fjord.

Our course “Hangry Neighbours” has been learning from Kristiansholm and its inhabitants and neighbours, we have studied planning documents and asked questions to lawyers, artists and climate rights activists. In the next weeks, we would like to invite the neighbours of Sandviken, the citizens of Bergen and everybody who cares about a city for all to engage in actions and conversations in and around Kristiansholm.

Our actions claim Allemansretten: the right to a view on the fjord, the right to access the coast and the right to enjoy it respectfully. The actions also demand a socio-ecological just urban development: accessible housing, but also a dynamic public space and the protection of the coastal environment.
