In Valevåg, the Literature Boat Epos will dock at the ferry quay with a rich program developed in collaboration with Valenheimen Cultural Stage, Sveio Municipality, and Sveio Church.
Saturday, September 20:
14:00 – Epos opens to the public, who can experience artworks by Elsebet Rahlff, Elin Már Øyen Vister, and Philip Rizk, which the boat carries along on its journey.
15:30 – Walk from the ferry quay to the chapel where composer Fartein Valen is buried – reading by Agnes Ravatn.
16:30–18:00 – Program at Valenheimen with readings by Layli Long Soldier, guest artist on Epos, along with Tora Sanden Døskeland and Einar Økland, plus a screening of a video work by Leander Djønne.
Literature Boat Epos Writer in Residence: Layli Long Soldier
As part of ‘Water as a Linker and Separator’, Epos hosts three writers in residence on board, all of whom explore themes of colonialism, narration, polyphony, and place.
Layli Long Soldier
(b. 1974, Fort Collins), a citizen of the Oglala Lakota Nation, is a poet whose work engages with history, language, and Indigenous sovereignty. She is the author of Whereas (2017) and Chromosomory (2010). Her new book of poetry, We, is forthcoming in 2026. Her poems have appeared in various renowned media publications. Long Soldier teaches in the MFA Creative Writing Program at the Institute of American Indian Arts, and resides in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
