Entrée

Entrée was established as a non-profit platform for contemporary art in 2009. It focuses on commissioning and producing new work by both local and international artists. Located in central Bergen, it was built in the 1920s based on designs by architect Ole Landmark (who also conceptualised Bergen Kunsthall). Entrée is notable for its double-height ceiling and large window opening directly onto the street, allowing passers-by to view the works of art.

For across, with, nearby, the space is reimagined as a studio in motion by Maasai Mbili, an artist collective from Kibera, Nairobi. The collective’s artistic and social practice often uses the streets and markets as active sites of exchange. At Entrée, they recreate their Kibera-based studio as a means of directly engaging with the people of Bergen, widening the perception of modes of exhibiting, situated in creating and experiencing art communally.
